Demographics

As with much of the Puget Sound region, Pierce County has experienced strong growth over the past ten years. Affordable housing with growing employment centers in Tacoma, particularly the Port of Tacoma, as well as Olympia to the south and the industrial areas of the southern Kent Valley to the north, has spurred population growth in the County. As can be seen, the growth in the unincorporated areas has been stronger than in the incorporated areas, by a notable amount. Really, the only area to lag in terms of growth is Tacoma. The following table outlines the population growth for the County, Tacoma and Puyallup.
