BMW building new store in Sodo district

BMW Seattle has broken ground on a new store in the Sodo district at 1002 Airport Way S., on a site that formerly housed warehouse space.

"We have experienced tremendous growth in recent years at our BMW Seattle store," said Sid DeBoer, CEO of Lithia Motors, Inc., parent company of BMW Seattle. The company has outgrown its current location.

The complex will have two buildings. The service structure will house the parts and service departments, and the sales building will be a showcase for vehicles. The buildings will be separated by an alley.

There will be more than 300,000 square feet of new space and 40 service bays.

This is a design/build project that is being constructed by Foushee and Associates of Bellevue. Completion is slated for 2009.

The project will use green building principles in the construction and may pursue a LEED certification for one of the buildings.

DeBoer said BMW Seattle will hire more technicians, service advisors and customer representatives, and offer a larger selection of vehicles.

Lithia has more than 109 stores in 15 states.
